Still waiting for the one? Bazi looks at when, not just who

In short

Bazi will not hand you a wedding date. What it reads from your birth chart is the kind of partner you tend to be drawn to, and the years when relationships tend to come into focus for you. Those years come from how each new year meets the day you were born, not your zodiac animal. When a year lights up that part of your chart, meeting someone, committing or changing a relationship tends to be more likely. Knowing yours means you notice the opening when it comes.

Why Bazi starts with the day you were born

Most horoscopes start from your birth year. Bazi starts from your birth day. The day pillar, the pair of characters for the day you were born, is read as you and your closest relationship. Its top character, the day master, stands for you. Its bottom character is an earthly branch with an animal of its own, and it is called the spouse palace: the seat of your partner in the chart.

That is why two people born in the same year can read very differently in love. Everyone born that year shares a year animal. The day pillar changes every day.

The element that stands for your partner

Every element in a chart is read by what it does to your day master, and the classical texts give the partner one of them, called the spouse star. Traditionally, a man's spouse star is the element his day master keeps in check, which Bazi calls wealth. A woman's is the element that keeps her day master in check, called the officer. Many readers today look at both for everyone, whatever their gender or whoever they love. For each day master, the two partner elements are:

Wood day master: earth, which wood keeps in check, and metal, which keeps wood in check.

Fire day master: metal and water.

Earth day master: water and wood.

Metal day master: wood and fire.

Water day master: fire and earth.

A chart with its spouse star close to the day master, or sitting in the spouse palace, tends to make relationships a central theme of life. A chart where the spouse star is missing is not a chart without love. It tends to mean love arrives through the years that bring that element in.

How Bazi picks out the years

Each year has a pillar of its own, and a reading checks what it does to your chart. Three signals are watched most closely.

1. The year brings your spouse star. When the top character of the year carries your partner element, relationships tend to come into focus. A ten-year period that carries it does the same over a longer stretch.

2. The year's animal pairs with your day animal. The six classic pairs are Rat and Ox, Tiger and Pig, Rabbit and Dog, Dragon and Rooster, Snake and Monkey, and Horse and Goat. When the year pairs with the animal of your day pillar, the spouse palace is said to be stirred, and new relationships or commitments tend to follow.

3. The year's animal clashes with your day animal. The six clashing pairs are Rat and Horse, Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Rabbit and Rooster, Dragon and Dog, and Snake and Pig. A clash moves the spouse palace. For someone single it can mean a sudden start; for a couple it tends to mean change, such as moving in, a wedding or a rough patch. It is a year of movement, not a verdict.

A fourth, lighter signal is the peach blossom star, which marks years of attraction and attention rather than commitment. It comes from your year or day animal: Monkey, Rat and Dragon people get it in Rooster years; Tiger, Horse and Dog people in Rabbit years; Snake, Rooster and Ox people in Horse years; and Pig, Rabbit and Goat people in Rat years.

The next few years at a glance

Bazi years start at the solar new year in early February, not on 1 January or at Chinese New Year. Here is what the next few years bring, by the signals above.

2026, the fire horse year, until 4 February 2027: brings the spouse star to water and metal day masters, pairs with Goat day animals, clashes with Rat day animals, and is a peach blossom year for Snake, Rooster and Ox people.

2027, the fire goat year, from 4 February 2027: brings the spouse star to water and metal day masters, pairs with Horse day animals and clashes with Ox day animals. It is not a peach blossom year for anyone.

2028, the earth monkey year, from 4 February 2028: brings the spouse star to wood and water day masters, pairs with Snake day animals and clashes with Tiger day animals.

2029, the earth rooster year, from 3 February 2029: brings the spouse star to wood and water day masters, pairs with Dragon day animals, clashes with Rabbit day animals, and is a peach blossom year for Monkey, Rat and Dragon people.

A line here is a starting point, not a forecast. A year that brings your spouse star but clashes with something else in your chart reads differently from one that does nothing else, and the ten-year period you are in sets the background for all of it.

What Bazi will not tell you

It will not name the person, and it will not promise a date. Plenty of people marry in a quiet year and stay single in a busy one. The tradition describes timing and tendencies, and what you do with an open year is still yours. If a reading tells you that you will never marry, or that a year is doomed, it is claiming more than the method can.

How to find your own years

You need your day pillar, which comes from your birth date, and ideally your birth time and place for the rest of the chart. 8 Signs works out your full chart, including your day master and day animal, and it is free to start. Seek can then answer the question directly: ask it which years tend to bring relationships into focus for you.

Common questions

Can Bazi tell me exactly when I will get married?

No. It can point to years when relationships tend to come into focus, from your spouse star, your spouse palace and the ten-year period you are in. Whether a year like that brings a wedding, a new partner or a decision depends on you and on what is already happening in your life.

What is the spouse palace in Bazi?

The earthly branch of your day pillar, the bottom character of the day you were born. It is read as the place of your partner and your marriage, and years that pair with it or clash with it tend to stir up relationships.

Does my partner's zodiac animal matter?

Less than most people think. The year animal is one character out of eight. A Bazi compatibility reading compares the whole charts, and the two day pillars carry the most weight.

Does this work for same-sex relationships?

The classical texts were written with husbands and wives in mind, so they assign the spouse star by gender. Many readers today look at both partner elements for everyone, whatever their gender or whoever they love, and the spouse palace works the same way for all.
